Total knee replacement is a joint orthopedic surgery that involves replacing the knee joint’s articular surfaces(femoral condyle and Tibial plateau) with smooth mental and highly cross-linked polyethylene plastic.

Post. Op day 1:

  1. Bedside exercise; Ankle pumps, Quadriceps sets, Gluteal sets.
  2. Review of weight-bearing status.
  3. Bed mobility and transfer training; bed to/from the chair.

Post. Op day 2:

  1. Exercise for AROM, AAROM, and terminal knee extension.
  2. Strengthening exercises
  3. Gait training with assistive devices and functional transfer training; sit to/from stand, Toilet transfer, bed mobility.

Post. Op day 3-5 on discharge to Rehabilitation unit:

  1. Progression of ROM and strengthening exercises to patient tolerance level.
  2. Progression of Ambulation and stairs with the least restrictive devices.
  3. Progression of ADL Training.

Post. Op day 5-4 weeks:

Home Exercises:

• Quadriceps sets

• Straight Leg Raise
• Supported Leg Raise
